A school in the Savoy 1667 – 1668

T G Holt

Following the accession of the Catholic king James II, a Jesuit school, chapel and lodgings were established in 1687 within the precinct of the Savoy Hospital that had been founded by Henry VII and rebuilt after the Dissolution by Mary Tudor. The school had 400 pupils, half Protestant and half Catholic, but flourished for just one and a half years, being disbanded at the accession of William of Orange in 1688.
