About LAMAS

LAMAS was founded in 1855 ‘for the purpose of investigating the antiquities and early history of the Cities of London and Westminster and the Metropolitan County of Middlesex’.

A section of the City Wall near Moorgate (© MoLAS)LAMAS does this by promoting research into London’s archaeology, local history and historic buildings, and by supporting the publication of the results that come from such research.

LAMAS has four sub-committees which report to LAMAS Council.

The sub-committees are:
- Publications
- Archaeological
- Greater London Local History
- Historic Buildings and Conservation

LAMAS is also keen to stimulate the interest of London’s children in the fields of archaeology, local history and historic buildings. We support the work of the Central London Young Archaeologists’ Club, which organises a wide range of children’s activities.
